Maryland recruit completes remarkable 107-yard interception return for TD

Sometimes it isn't enough to just take a knee in the end zone after an interception, even when that might seem like the smartest option.

For most players, picking off a pass at the absolute rear of the end zone would be a recipe for a guaranteed kneel down and a starting position at the 20-yard-line. Luckily for St. John's Prep (Danvers, Ma.) star Johnathan Thomas, he isn't like most other players.

In fact, Thomas might be about as elusive a runner as you'll ever see. The senior -- who has committed to play at Maryland and is among the top-50 running back prospects in the nation, according to -- traditionally turns heads out of the offensive backfield. Against Brockton High (Brockton, Ma.), a fellow Massachusetts powerhouse, Thomas burned everyone by embarrassing his opponent as a defensive back on a return that the entire Brockton squad seemed pretty stunned he was even bringing back.

The touchdown was just part of a dominant performance from St. Johns, which cruised to a 42-28 victory.

There are a handful of moments in the remarkable full-field return that bear mention, but all of those would almost belabor the point that Thomas is one heck of an athlete, the kind for whom the usual rules about returning balls doesn't really apply.
