The first glass-shattering dunk of the prep basketball season caught on video almost wasn't a dunk at all. Somehow, San Andreas (Calif.) senior Kyle Gouveia's attempt bounced up and back through the hoop before the rim was completed destroyed.
The shattering glass reportedly cut Gouveia's arm and required bandages, but he returned when the end of the third quarter resumed a half-hour later -- in a different gymnasium at the high school. The Stanislaus State University big man finished with 31 points and 14 rebounds in the 64-63 loss to Sonora (Calif.), according to the game story.
But the quote of the day goes to teammate Jayson Verona: “I was like, ‘Whoa, big Kyle.”
