First, we had the Wrecking Ball, a two-point conversion that involved a placeholder transforming into a monkey. And then there was the Flapjack, another conversion that seemed more like a prayer than a play call. Now, it appears we have the Hialeah Heave.
Here's how the Hialeah Heave worked: A coach for the Miami youth football league's Hialeah Cougars called quarterback Treyvon Fowler, causing the Dania Beach Bears defense to sit back on their heels a bit. At that moment the center snapped the ball to a running back, who then connected with a sprinting Fowler down the sideline for a touchdown. MaxPreps caught the entire trick play on tape.
Considering the touchdown reportedly broke a 12-12 tie in the fourth quarter, this call might have both the Wrecking Ball and Flapjack beat for Trick Play of the Year. It was certainly just as entertaining.
