La Mirada (Calif.) High baseball coach Kim Brooks will not be on the sidelines when his team begins California's Southern Section playoffs on Thursday because of a tirade aimed at his players after a loss.
Also the school's athletic director, Brooks has been placed on admiministrative leave pending an investigation into a 17-minute audio recording of an expletive-laced shouting session he had with the Matadores following an 8-4 loss to Los Osos on April 26, according to the Whittier Daily News.

- “I’ve been here a long time. I will tell you that was probably the most pathetic (expletive) baseball game I’ve ever seen a group play.”
- “If you don’t get it, (expletive) get out. Get the (expletive) out! That’s the way it’s been, and that’s the way it’s gotta be until I (expletive) die. If you don’t like it, it’s easy to transfer.”
- “I’m sorry that (during) your Easter vacation you had to play baseball. There’s some (expletive) kids at Children’s Hospital that would have given anything to be able to walk and be out there!”
- “If you can’t (expletive) dive for a ball in the infield, (expletive) you! Can’t make a routine play? (Expletive) you! Let somebody else try to make a (expletive) routine play,” Brooks said. “You’re gonna (expletive) (complain) and moan at the (expletive) umpire? … (Expletive) you! Get off the (expletive) mound! I want a man out there. I want men! This isn’t (expletive) little boys’ baseball. It’s (expletive) time to grow (expletive) up.”
When reached by the Whittier Daily News, Brooks apologized for the profane language. Still, the La Mirada administration released a statement announcing the coach's suspension during the investigation. Meanwhile, the Matadores (20-10) begin CIF-SS Division 2 play against Pasadena on Thursday.
If he was that mad after a regular-season game, just imagine how upset he'll be if they lose this one.
Interestingly, La Mirada defeated Norwalk 18-2 in their first game following the tirade — their most lopsised victory this season — and won seven of their final nine regular-season games to earn a playoff bye.
Also, this isn't the first time a La Mirada program has come under fire this year. In February, 13 members of the school's girls' basketball program walked out of practice over alleged bullying by their coach. Prior to the coach's eventual firing, Brooks, speaking in his role as AD, told the Long Beach Press-Telegram, ""I support coach Gowens 100 percent. He's doing a heck of a job. We are on the same page."
