American snowboarder Trevor Jacob says he doesn't "remember a whole lot" and no wonder: The 20-year-old Californian says he's suffered 25 concussions before he can even legally drink a beer.
Jacob made that admission during a press conference for U.S. competitiors in the snowcross events. It's a staggering amount of concussions, even for a sport where head injuries have been at the forefront of discussion. Czech snowboarder Sarka Pancochova made international headlines over the weekend when a scary crash on the slopestyle course split her helmet. The damage was a visible reminder of the dangers that snowboarders face on every run.
Jacob did place one disclaimer on that total of 25 concussions. Not all of them have come via snowboarding. Jacob is also a well-known daredevil with a chair lift, a skateboard and a dirtbike (see the videos below) and has achieved plenty of fame as a testing-the-limits performer in Travis Pastrana's Nitro Circus. "Trevor Jacob ... escapes death" was one of Google's top auto-fill suggestions when I was researching this post.
Still, one concussion let alone 25 is serious cause for concern. At what point does Jacob rein in his behavior to prevent even more injury to his brain?
