Russian skier Ekaterina Glazyrina expelled from Olympic team after bashing Russian Biathlon Union

Russian skier Ekaterina Glazyrina was expelled from Russia’s national biathlon team after making derogatory comments about the Russian Biathlon Union.

The comments were made on VKontakte, a Russian social media website, and have since been deleted.

Glazyrina, whose Olympics ended with a 61st place finish in the biathlon women’s individual, has been banned from all elite-level completion for the rest of the year. She was not included in the women’s relay that won silver on Friday.

Glazyrina had competed in the Biathlon World Cup since 2011 and boasted two gold medals in relay events, including one last month.

“We can confirm that Ekaterina Glazyrina really has been suspended from work with the Russian national team for incorrect statements in relation to the Olympic team,” the Russian Biathlon Union said in a statement.

“As a result of this, Glazyrina will not take part in the remaining three stages of the World Cup this season.”
