Opening Ceremony Theater: Seoul, 1988

After watching the clips of pretty much every opening ceremonies that have been captured on film, I do have a favorite. It's Seoul in 1988. These ceremonies may seem quaint by today's over-produced standards, but they were beautiful in their simplicity. My favorite moment was when a group of skydivers joined mid-air to make the Olympic rings, right around the 3:30 mark. Even after watching this clip a dozen times, I still get the chills.

Programming note: Fourth-Place Medal will liveblog the opening ceremonies next Friday, starting at 8 p.m. EDT. We hope you'll join us!
