As the Olympics' most marketable star, Lindsey Vonn's absence from this year's Sochi Games was a tough blow for both fans of Team USA and NBC. But it was most difficult, obviously, on Vonn herself, a fierce competitor who'd worked for a year to get her injured left knee in sufficient shape to compete at Sochi ... and failed.
Speaking on Thursday morning to the Today Show, Vonn noted that she's working out four hours a day, six days a week, to get herself back into shape. And while she concedes that she's "very instinctual" and "very aggressive," a downhill-skiing approach to life doesn't always work.
Enter her boyfriend, a fella who knows a thing or two about focus under pressure: Tiger Woods.
"He’s taught me to stay calm, to stay patient. Focus on one step at a time," Vonn said.
Imagine, for a second, focusing all your effort on one goal, only to fall short and realize you've got another four years to wait, if it even happens then. You can see Vonn's frustration. “Trying to stay positive is not always the easiest thing in the world,” she allowed.
