Katerina Emmons wins first gold graciously

Katerina Emmons of the Czech Republic won gold in shooting, giving her the first gold of the Beijing games. Emmons, the wife of American shooter Matt Emmons, had this to say after her win:

“I feel really bad for Du Li. … She can shoot way better than she did today,” Emmons said. “I’m sorry, but the Chinese press is putting a lot of pressure on the athletes.”

You see, China was expected to win gold in shooting. News of Emmons' win broke over the internet during the Opening Ceremony, and China would have enjoyed the early glory. They did win the next two golds in shooting, but the first gold of these Olympics belongs to a woman who worried about her opponent before she talked about herself. That's a pretty good way to start the games.
