The Americans are in the gold medal game. Which means the Canadians know they'll have a chance at the daily double of redemption over the U.S. and a gold medal on home ice if they defeat Slovakia in the Winter Olympic men's hockey semifinals on Friday night.
Which means it could be a long night for Slovakia, with that kind of motivation on the other side of the ice. And, hopefully, with Mitkini Girl somewhere in Hockey Place.
That said: The Slovaks are the tournament giant killers. They defeated Russia in the preliminary rounds. They eliminated the defending gold medalists from Sweden in the quarterfinals. They have forwards ready to convert any mistake into a goal; a large blue line that might be able to keep the crease clear; and Jaroslav Halak, the Montreal Canadiens goalie who has the chance to turn all of Canada into huge Carey Price fans with a victory here.
Hopefully it doesn't happen. We all want USA/Canada Part Deux, right?
