American wrestler Daniel Cormier will not compete due to kidney failure

According to the Lafayette Advertiser, Daniel Cormier, an American wrestler, may drop out of competition due to kidney failure. With less than an hour before Cormier was scheduled to take on Cuba's Michel Batista at 96 kg (211 lbs), Cormier was in a Beijing hospital. We will update you as more information becomes available.

UPDATE: It has been confirmed. Cormier will not be wrestling. Cormier was rushed to the hospital just a few hours after weigh-ins. One of the more experienced Olympians on the U.S. freestyle team, he was a threat to medal. Cormier dropping out tops off a disappointing Olympics for the United States wrestling contingent, where wrestlers expected to medal did not. The few bright spots were the gold medal from Henry Cejudo, and bronze from Adam Wheeler and Randi Miller.
