Zack Kassian ejected for hit on Brenden Dillon of Dallas; suspension coming? (GIF)

The Vancouver Canucks had a no good awful very bad first period against the Dallas Stars on Thursday night, giving up three goals in the first 12 minutes of the game. So naturally they started playing chippy hockey as the period went on. And then Zack Kassian did something stupid.

Here’s Kassian hitting Stars defenseman Brenden Dillon from behind, in glorious GIF form (via Pat Iversen).

Kassian was given a 5-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct. Dillon left for the dressing room in the first period but returned to play in the second.

Here's the full video:

Will this earn him a suspension? Keep in mind that Kassian was given three preseason and five regular season games for a high stick on Sam Gagner in the preseason.

Watching this hit, it seems even Kassian seemed to realize he had just punched his ticket for a Shanaban.
