Remember during the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs when TSN was keeping a board with the total amount of "too many men" calls when the penalty was happening an absurd amount of times? We here at Puck Daddy are considering doing something similar for own goals in hockey this year. We're approaching a dozen, by our count, and pretty soon Mooney's going to have to update his list.
The latest comes from the KHL by Atlant goaltender Sergei Borisov, which can only be described as a blunder. After making a save from a point shot, Borisov then went to bat the puck out of the air away from his crease.
Things did not go as planned.
The goal opened the scoring for SKA St. Petersburg en route to a 4-1 victory. The goal itself was credited to Alexei Semenov and given assists to Dmitry Kalinin and Roman Cervenka, so not scored as an own goal. But I still think we can update our own goal board with this clearing attempt gone awry.
