Staged fights off the faceoff aren’t everyone’s brand of whiskey, and that’s expected in this age of player safety.
But give it up to Mike Brown of the San Jose Sharks and Aaron Volpatti of the Washington Capitals: Even though their fight had about as much impact on the teams' Tuesday night game in DC as a fan in Section 417 wearing their lucky socks, this was a heck of a scrap.

Both players received five minutes for fighting, some adulation from the crowd and a place in the early conversations for fight of the year. At least in the middleweight division.
