Video: Marty Turco and his skate rob Jonathan Toews

It's been quite the season for the Dallas Stars. They struggle out of the gate, have to deal with the Sean Avery debacle, lose their captain, Brendan Morrow, for the season, then begin resurgence, and finally, lose Brad Richards to a broken wrist. Yesterday, in an important intra-conference match-up, the Stars lost a key two points at the hands of the Chicago Blackhawks in a 3-1 defeat.

The only bright spot for Dallas was the unbelievable skate save by Marty Turco on Jonathan Toews.

After the game, Turco attributed his instincts when he found himself sliding in his own crease:

"When you get in those situations it's all about reacting," Turco said. "It all stems from practicing like that and reacting to do what ever it takes. All I knew when I was sliding over is that he might shoot it right away. Out of the corner of my eye I knew he didn't shoot it, you think he is going to get it up, so you throw up a leg and you get lucky."

Like Mark Stepneski said over at Andrew's Stars Page, the save in the period could have been a turning point for the Stars as it kept the score 2-0, but Dallas squandered a power-play a short time later and the Blackhawks would later score with less than a minute remaining in the period to extend their lead to three.

Is it just me, or are we seeing a different "of the Year" candidate every week? Add Turco's desperation skate save to the "Save of the Year" category.

h/t to the great DayWalk3r for passing along the video
