Video: Freddy Meyer greets Sweden with awesome hip-check

Puck Daddy

Remember Freddy Meyer? He left the NHL for Modo Hockey of the Elitserien after last season with the Atlanta Thrashers (R.I.P.), and he's already leaving his mark on his new league … and his opponents.

That was former Tampa Bay Lightning winger Jimmie Olvestad, now of Djurgardens IF Stockholm, being sent ankles-up on a beautiful hip-check by Meyer, who played most of his years with the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Islanders.

We'd call it a "textbook hit," but we imagine there's something in the textbook about not finishing your check roughly two seconds after your opponent releases the puck. Yet, no interference penalty.

That part of the rink seems like Freddy's sweet spot; ask Milan Lucic about that.

s/t Jon Häggqvist for the clip.
