We're now into month five of NHL fans being caught in the middle of the Versus-DirecTV squabble, and things are looking no better for those puckheads who subscribe to the satellite TV service.
Adding salt to the wounds of those with DirecTV, Versus announced bonus coverage during the first week of March as the NHL celebrates its return after the Olympics. In addition to its usual Monday- and Tuesday-night games, they've added a late game March 2 for those viewers outside the New Jersey and San Jose markets. Two more bonus games, Washington-Buffalo and Pittsburgh-NY Rangers, will be shown Wednesday and Thursday.
Here's the full schedule for that week:
March 1: Detroit at Colorado, 9 p.m. ET.
March 2: Philadelphia at Tampa Bay, 7:30 p.m. ET.
March 2: New Jersey at San Jose, 10:30 p.m. ET (will not air in New Jersey or San Jose).
March 3: Washington at Buffalo, 7 p.m. ET (will not air in Washington or Buffalo).
March 3: Philadelphia at Florida, 7:30 p.m. ET (airs only in Washington and Buffalo)
March 4: Pittsburgh at New York Rangers, 7 p.m. ET (will not air in Pittsburgh or New York).
March 4: Toronto at Boston, 7 p.m. ET (airs only in Pittburgh and Buffalo).
Starting March 2, Versus will also begin airing Honda Drive to the Playoffs on Tuesday nights 30 minutes before "Hockey Central."
A 30-minute pre-game show will be aired Monday, March 1, and Wednesday, March 3.
As Wysh pointed out last week, the NHL playoffs are fast approaching and the lack of progress between Versus and DirecTV gives many puckheads plenty to worry about as April approaches. But there's still time to work things out before the NHL playoffs begin and ensure not one faceoff will be missed by those with DirecTV.
Finally, VERSUS also announced they will have a presence during the Olympic hockey tournament with this ad to be shown during every round-robin game:
