The play happened at the 15:57 mark of the first period of their Tuesday game. Namestnikov exited the game after the play and missed the rest of the first period but returned to start the second.

The play could draw the attention of the NHL’s Department of Player Safety. Namestnikov had already moved the puck up the ice before Glass arrived to deliver the bodycheck. Also, the hit did appear on the high side, though it’s tough to tell from the camera angle.

Last season Glass was fined $3,897.85 for butt-ending Boston Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid in the face.

The Lightning were already without forward Steven Stamkos (blood clot) and defenseman Anton Stralman (fractured left fibula) for the long-term as well as forward Ryan Callahan (lower body injury) and defenseman Victor Hedman (upper body injury) for the contest.

New York defeated Tampa 3-2.
