Tough morning for defensemen around the NHL on Wednesday. Following the news that Dennis Seidenberg of the Boston Bruins will miss eight weeks after back surgery, the Calgary Flames announced that T.J. Brodie broke a bone in his hand and is week-to-week.
Week-to-week, according to the Flames, means he'll miss about three-to-six.
Brodie broke the bone after getting hit by a shot during Monday’s preseason game against the Edmonton Oilers.
"It was a little sore but we didn't know for sure until yesterday,” Brodie said, via the Flames. “I’m able to stay on the ice, skate, and keep the conditioning up."
The good news for Brodie and the Flames is that should he need the max six weeks to recover, he’ll only miss a dozen games or so. And unlike the Bruins losing Seidenberg, Calgary has shown they can lose one of their top blueliners and be fine (see: Giordano, Mark). Dougie Hamilton's addition helps mightily.
