Puck Previews: Pest back for Dallas; new-look Bruins play Preds

Here are your Puck Previews: Spotlighting the key games in NHL action, news and views as well as general frivolity. Make sure to stop back here for the nightly Three Stars when the games are finished.

Preview: Dallas Stars (3-2-3) at Anaheim Ducks (3-3-1), 10 p.m. EST. The fantastically annoying Steve Ott(notes) returns to the Dallas lineup, though still bothered by an oblique muscle injury. He could be the team's second-line center as Brad Richards(notes) is out again, and Defending Big D is looking for big things from the pest. Ducks goalie J.S. Giguere is nursing a sore groin, so it'll be Jonas Hiller(notes) getting the nod with Justin Pogge(notes) waiting in the wings to make Leafs fans even more depressed when he inevitably stars for Anaheim. Watch the game live on Y! Sports.

Preview: Nashville Predators (2-4-1) at Boston Bruins (3-4-0), 7 p.m. EST. How nice of the Bruins to put Marc Savard(notes) on injured reserve just to even things up with the Preds, considering Jason Arnott's(notes) out of their lineup. Nashville is, of course, last in the NHL in goals scored with 10; something that may not bode well if Claude Julien decides to play it more conservative than Ann Coulter out there thanks to injuries. Watch the game live on Y! Sports.

Preview: Carolina Hurricanes (2-4-1) at New York Islanders (0-3-3), 7 p.m. EST.

Preview: Buffalo Sabres (4-1-1) at Florida (2-4-0), 7:30 p.m. EST.

Preview: Colorado Avalanche (6-1-1) at Minnesota Wild (1-6-0), 8 p.m. EST.

Preview: Vancouver Canucks (3-5-0) at Chicago Blackhawks (3-1-1), 8:30 p.m. EST.

Evening Reading

• Niklas Lidstrom, Mark Recchi(notes), Rob Blake(notes) and Chris Chelios(notes) are your NHLPA internal affairs unit. Now which one is actually a mole for Frank Costello? [THN]

• Why Jason LaBarbera(notes) of the Phoenix Coyotes should be your favorite goalie: Because his mask features The Ultimate Warrior. [Hockey Head]

• Sergei Kostistyn? Yeah, he's suspended again by the Montreal Canadiens for packing up and leaving the Hamilton Bulldogs. [Globe & Mail]

• NHL viewership numbers are up 19 percent this season on Versus, thanks in no small part to the 501,000 viewers the Washington Capitals and Bruins drew for opening night ... and no thanks to the 100,000 viewers the Blackhawks and Panthers drew from Europe. [SBJ]

• Good to see Rich Hammond still doing his thing with the Los Angeles Kings, getting Terry Murray to admit that he's "erased" his goalie plans after losing faith in Erik Ersberg(notes). [Kings Insider]

• Oh and speaking of the LA Kings *drooooooooooool*

Puck Buddy Comment of the Day: Gotta be "dc_bcf" in giving the Toronto Star fodder for their Maple Leafs joke file:

"Why is everyone so shocked at Toronto's slow start? Everyone knows the Leafs blow in the fall."

Bold Prediction: We will have a shutout in the Buffalo/Florida game.
