Presenting ‘Goalie in the Wind’, a musical farewell to Roberto Luongo in Vancouver

The Roberto Luongo era in Vancouver came to a sudden end on Tuesday, when the Florida Panthers brought the goaltender home, where he'd always wanted to be, in exchange for prospect netminder Jacob Markstrom and center Shawn Matthias.
On the one hand, the trade didn't come as much of a surprise. Luongo asked out last year, and was forced back thanks to his terrible contract. But on the other hand, considering the terribleness of said contract, most assumed a trade would never happen. Then it did.
There will be plenty more said about this deal once the dust clears, but as for right now, as a Canucks fan, much of that dust is in my eyes. With that, I present, "Goalie in the Wind", my farewell to the greatest goaltender in Canucks history.
The lyrics to this slapdash piece of Elton John-inspired garbage:
Goodbye Bobby Lu
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While rumours around you swirled
They came down to ice level
And they asked you to waive your clause
They pulled you from a practice
Then they didn't make a trade
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a goalie in the wind
Wishing you were back in Florida
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to see you
Raise the Cup instead
Your candle burned out long before
Your contract ever did
Coming back was tough
The toughest role you ever played
You said your contract sucks
And that was the price you paid
Even when you played
Oh the press still hounded you
All the papers had to say
Was that Luongo still wanted a trade
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a goalie in the wind
Wishing you were back in Florida
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have see you
Play in BC Place
But Tortorella went with Lack
What a damn disgrace
Goodbye Bobby Lu
Though I never knew you at all
I found you on Twitter
And you tweeted some funny stuff
Goodbye Bobby Lu
From the young fans in Vancouver
Who sees you as something more than a contract
More than just Roberto Luongo
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a goalie in the wind
Wishing you were back in Florida
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have seen you
Raise the Cup instead
Your candle burned out long before
Your contract ever did
I should quit.
