Patrick Roy freaks over Nathan MacKinnon major, then everyone calms down (Video)

In the first period of the Colorado Avalanche’s game at the Philadelphia Flyers, Nathan MacKinnon put a stick in the back of Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn. Softy. Almost a nudge. Schenn went flying into the boards and a melee ensued.

Schenn was injured on the play, as seemingly all Philadelphia defensemen are this season. MacKinnon was given a 5-minute boarding major …

… and Patrick Roy gave the officials an ear-full, as only an irate Patrick Roy can deliver.

MacKinnon would return to the game, having avoided a game misconduct, and finished without a point and a minus-1 in the Avs’ 4-3 loss – a loss in which the Flyers scored two goals on that 5-minute power play.

Here’s MacKinnon after the game, calling it a “dumb play by me”:

Roy had calmed considerably after the game.

“I had no problem with the call. My only problem with it is the referee was very close to the play and it was the linesman that was at our own blue line that made the call. I just thought he was too far to make that call,” he said.

Will MacKinnon get a call from the League on this one, considering the injury?
