Pass or Fail: New York Islanders Yankee Stadium game jerseys
When the NHL released the chrome logos for the Stadium Series, the League’s non-Winter Classic outdoor games, the New York Islanders’ insignia was different than the current crest – swapping out the image of Long Island, and focusing on the ‘NY’ in the team’s logo.
Newsday had the first look at the Islanders’ Yankee Stadium game jerseys, which they’ll wear against the New York Rangers on Jan. 29.
As an outdoor game jersey, it’s pretty sharp. The angled stripes and other design elements are distinct. The color scheme is traditional and easy on the eyes. As Icethetics wonders, are the collar laces tied on the inside or is that just how male model John Tavares has them tied?
Obviously this glimpse doesn’t show us the back of the sweater – more images are due Wednesday – but this John Tavares sweatshirt from Shop NHL might offer a design clue.
Overall, we dig the design. It’s a modernized sweater rather than the retro kind seen in the Winter Classic, but that design element seems to be something the League is pushing for the Stadium Series to set it apart.
Sure, we’re a little sad the Islanders didn’t resurrect the Aquafresh look one last time for kitsch’s sake, but it’s an outdoor game – no one like frozen fishsticks.
What say you?
