Accurate surveys about hockey would have a robust sample size. (Pennsylvania had only 317 votes in the Reddit survey, for example.) Accurate surveys about hockey would restrict the voting to self-identified hockey fans. Accurate surveys about hockey would branch outside the scope of one Internet news group site, and seek to access a cross-section of the populace. Accurate surveys about hockey would not allow users to vote multiple times, claiming to be from multiple places.
The Reddit survey, far as we can tell, doesn’t have any of these things. What it does have is a artfully crafted graphic and the benefit of being published in early August, so the hockey world has jumped on these map like a starving castaway on a chicken nugget.
Anyhoo, the “hate maps” are good for giggles. The one above is for North America. Wow, those Canucks in the South, eh? We haven't seen Alabamans reject something this emphatically since the theory of evolution.
What about Canada?
Yep. What about all of Asia and Europe?
(In case you’re wondering, Africa hates the Winnipeg Jets because of one user.)
So the majority of the world's population hates a sports team from Boston.
We take it all back. The methodolgy is airtight, the sample size was ample and the findings are indisputable.
