Nazem Kadri on practice lateness by sleeping in: 'I screwed up' (Video)

A player in Toronto taking accountability for a mistake? No way! Way!

Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri did a totally not-Maple Leafs type thing and took responsibility for being late to a team meeting Sunday morning and being sent home. No lawsuit? No blaming the media?

Nope, Kadri said it was completely, totally and utterly his fault. And henceforth, he will take his healthy scratch for Monday night’s game against the Islanders and be OK with it.

"I screwed up," a remorseful Kadri said Monday to the rabid horde of Toronto media. “I just slept in. That was really the reason. I can’t blame anything else on it.”

He also addressed the situation with coach Peter Horachek.

“I just apologized and said it was unacceptable. I realized I made a mistake. I’m not trying to make any excuses, he just told me to basically keep my head up and to not let it happen again, ” he said.

And as for more apologies, Kadri said he did talk with his teammates as well.

Here is the video of Kadri:

Wow … No blaming something else! Mind. Blown. Also, take note that Kadri did speak with reporters, rather than ducking them until the issue sort of went away, and some new drama unfolded. Its very un-Maple Leafs like.

Team President Brendan Shanahan should definitely take note how Kadri handled this publicly when Shanahan decides to destroy this team in the summer and rebuild it back from the ground up.
