Please recall that Alexei Emelin of the Montreal Canadiens was one of the players Milan Lucic threatened during the post-Game 7 handshake line last playoffs.
If you’re Lucic, playing against the Canadiens for the first time this season, you might want to follow through on your threat. You may want to hit Emelin as hard as you can, maybe even cross the line of legality when you do so.
Now, when would be a good time to unleash this fury? If you guessed “any time other than with 1:20 left in a game in which your team trails by a goal,” well, you’d be right. You also wouldn’t be Milan Lucic.
Lucic followed through on a hit after Emelin had released the puck and turned his back to Lucic, earning the Bruins forward a boarding penalty. P.A. Parenteau scored an empty net power-play goal to seal the 6-4 win for the Habs.
Being a creature of petulance, Lucic took his moment in the penalty box to taunt the Montreal fans jeering him. Here, watch this GIF and see if you can pick out the moment when he feigns self-gratification to the fans:
He also either raised the roof or raised the Cup, the latter being rather hilarious when you consider he’s playing in [expletive] Montreal.
Lucic, who received a 10-minute misconduct as well, didn’t speak to the media after the game.
