Things were going so great for the San Jose Sharks through the opening week of the 2015-16 NHL season. The team has started out 3-0, with resounding wins over the Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks and Washington Capitals, and have outscored their opponents 12-1 so far.

So seeing Logan Couture go down during practice on Thursday in New Jersey was the first “uh oh” of the season for the Sharks. And it turns out the news is bad.

According to the Sharks, Couture fractured his right fibula at the ankle and will miss the next 4-6 weeks. He’ll return to San Jose where he’ll undergo surgery.

From the Mercury News:

Sharks coach Pete DeBoer said Friday that Couture's skate got caught in a rut in the ice surface at Prudential Center, and he got "leaned on a little bit" by a teammate. Couture was in one of the corners in a five-on-five drill, and did not put any weight on his right leg as he was helped off the ice by Brent Burns and Brenden Dillon.

Couture has only recorded one assist this season, but has been one of the team’s better possession players up front in the early going with a 62.2-percent score-adjusted Corsi on line with Joel Ward and Patrick Marleau.

Rookie Nikolay Goldobin has been recalled and was with the Sharks for Friday’s morning skate at Prudential Center.
