Kings announcer Bob Miller to undergo heart bypass surgery

Kings announcer Bob Miller to undergo heart bypass surgery

Los Angeles Kings games on FOX Sports West will sound a bit different for the next while after the team announced that broadcaster Bob Miller will undergo heart bypass surgery.

“It is unfortunate that I have to miss Kings telecasts but I have to get this taken care of as soon as possible,” Miller said in a statement. “I know the telecasts will be in good hands and I hope to return to the TV booth as soon as my health allows.”

The date of the surgery, as well as Miller’s return to the booth, is unknown at the moment.

Nick Nickson, currently the Kings’ radio play-by-play man, will fill Miller’s role until he’s 100-percent.

Miller, who was honored by the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2000 with the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award, has been the Kings play-by-play man since 1973.

Best wishes to Miller. We'll miss his calls as well as his great stories.
