Kari Lehtonen helpfully instructs taunting Red Wings fans to observe the scoreboard (VIDEO)

Kari Lehtonen was pretty incredible on Tuesday night against the Detroit Red Wings: Stopping 39 shots, and coming three seconds away the first shutout loss for the Wings in a home opener since 1947 – when Gordie Howe was 19 years old.

Alas, Damien Brunner’s first (real) NHL goal broke the shutout with 3.4 seconds left. Red Wings fans razzed Lehtonen from the stands. The Dallas goalie then did what anyone would do in this situation …

SCOREBOARD. No one on the corner have swagga like Kari Lehtonen ... here's the moment in glorious GIF form.

Subtle and effective. Heck, our shutout ends with 3.4 seconds left, we might go the full Tortorella and chuck the water bottle into the stands.

Here’s Mike Heika on Lehtonen losing the shutout:

He really did seem OK losing the shutout at the 19:56 mark of the third period, when Pavel Datsyuk made and unbelievable pass Damien Brunner scored.

“Obviously, it would have looked nice or pretty to have that shutout, but I think the win was more important,” he said. “To come in here and win in this building, that was more important.’’

And a lovely building it is. Obviously, he was just pointing out the architecture to the fans.
