On Friday, Toews teamed up with the Make-a-Wish Foundation, giving four-year-old Nicholas Skretkowski, from Milton, Ontario, a chance to skate with his idol.
According to his bio, Skretkowski's favorite TV show is "hockey", and his favorite player is Toews. So the boy, who has a medical condition called Wilms’ tumor and strabismus, was truly living a dream being out on the ice with Toews:
The Blackhawks went all out for Nicholas, even giving him a locker next Toews in the team's dressing room.
We're honestly impressed that Toews was able to let Nicholas's shots get by him and into the goal. Sure, that's the thing to do, but who knew Captain Serious had another mode?
"It was great," said Toews, "not just to be out on the ice with him, but to have him in here with the guys. He seemed a little shy at first, but then kind of got more comfortable. Someone asked him about his favorite team and his favorite players. He seemed like he knew a lot for a little guy."
Toews, on the other hand, didn't need any time to acclimatize. He plays with Patrick Kane, who still looks about twelve, so this was an easy adjustment.
