Holiday sweaters are all the rage this time of year.

The San Jose Sharks made fun of them in a video last season. This year hockey mask designer David Gunnarsson decided to put a bad looking Christmas sweater on the headgear of Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard.

The photo of the mask is above.

Gunnarsson wrote the reasoning behind the mask on his official Facebook page.

I just love those ugly christmas sweaters... So how about create the ultimate christmas mask: The Ugly Christmas Mask! I am a huge Christmas freak, so you understand it was a blast for me to create this piece...! When it is Christmas my wife do not have 3 kids... She have 4 kids...Here it is, loaded with Christmas details all over the mask, just like a christmas card!

He also recently released the mask for Howard's teammate Petr Mrazek.

Howard has been known to get into the Christmas spirit in the past with this Santa Claus mask. Mrazek had a “Family Guy” Christmas mask a year ago. No doubt these are the first of many holiday themed NHL items throughout the month of December.
