Ducks defenseman Hampus Lindholm dealt a legal hipcheck to Marian Hossa with 5:12 to go in the second period. The check sent Hossa spinning into the end boards where he suffered an apparent leg injury.

He was able to skate off with help, but could not put any weight on his left leg.

After the game, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times spoke with Coach Joel Quenneville on the forward's status:

“We’ll probably know more [Sunday],” Joel Quenneville said after the Hawks lost 3-2 in overtime to the Anaheim Ducks, their third loss in as many home games. “We don’t think it’s serious, but he could miss some time.”

When asked if Hossa could be out weeks, Quenneville said, “Could be stretching it on weeks. Not that long.”

That's a generally positive prognosis from the coach, but again, they'll know more (i.e. what they should tell the media) on Sunday.

Everyone knows the threat Hossa poses for the Blackhawks. He's currently seventh on the team in scoring with 28 points and continues log heavy minutes on Chicago's special teams and on the top line. We also know he's 37-years-old and doesn't heal quite as quickly as he used to. Replacing him in any capacity is no easy task.

After dropping the game in overtime to Anaheim, the Blackhawks find themselves tied with the Dallas Stars at 77 points; the Stars have 3 games in hand.
