Playing in his first game since last November, Kariya looked like his old self as he returned from hip surgery that sidelined him for most of last season. His power-play goal midway through the second period started the St. Louis comeback that saw the Blues score three times in a 5:05 span en route to a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings in Stockholm. Kariya matched his entire goal total from 2008-09 when he put home his second of the game in the second period which would eventually be the game winner.

Despite having three defensemen in front of him playing with the flu, Vokoun backstopped the Panthers to a shootout win over the Chicago Blackhawks in Finland. Making 52 saves, including robbing Patrick Kane, Vokoun denied Patrick Sharp(notes) on Chicago's final attempt in the shootout to grab the extra point for Florida.
