Like we always say: The only thing better than a line brawl is two line brawls ... especially when the second one involves the goaltenders dropping the mitts.
Here are the USHL's Des Moines Buccaneers and Dubuque (no joke) Fighting Saints, amassing 200 penalty minutes in a pair of third-period brawls during Dubuque's 7-4 victory at Des Moines on Friday night. Your pugilistic netminders are Tyler Bruggeman of the Bucs and Matt Morris of the Saints. (Adult Language Warning on videos)
Here's a second look at both fights, this time from ice level, which really enhances the first line brawl. Boy, it didn't matter if it was a third-man in or a linesman, because Garrett Taylor (No. 9 in white) was just going to keep tossing bombs. (Keep in mind this is a chunk of a 10-minute highlight video of the third period.)
If your brain can process them, here are the penalties for the third period for Des Moines and Dubuque. Goalie Matt Morris got an extra two minutes for "crossing the red line" to fight his counterpart, and they were two minutes well-spent.
THonline.com had more on the game, and a quick word from one of the coaches:
"I'm sure our fans in Dubuque won't want to miss that Jan. 1 game against Des Moines," Saints coach Jim Montgomery said. "That should be a hell of a hockey game. I know it's a long way off, but our memory is long."
Overall, a pretty wild scene in the USHL. Sure, it's not a goalie fight before an overtime shootout or a player killing a bat with his stick. But then again, the Green Bay Gamblers weren't involved in this, were they?
