The Pittsburgh Penguins entered their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday night without star captain Sidney Crosby, who missed the game with the Brandon Dubinsky Flu … er, a lower body injury that's made him day-to-day.
In the second period of that game, Boone Jenner of the Jackets sent the Penguins’ other star center to the locker room with a knee-on-knee collision.
Jenner appeared to position his knee to hit Evgeni Malkin’s, earning a tripping penalty at 7:03 of the second, and then earning a fight with Scott Wilson of the Penguins. Malkin, who earlier scored his 16th goal of the season on the power play, went to the Penguins locker room for treatment.
Watch it closely here:
Thankfully for the Penguins, he returned to the bench later in the period and resumed playing.
This will be something the Department of Player Safety takes a glance at.
UPDATE: John Tortorella on the play -
#CBJ Tortorella, asked about Jenner collision w Malkin: "He got up, didn't he? It's like he was dead, and then he was out the next shift."
