Ducks’ Brad Staubitz ejected for spearing Brenden Dillon in groin (VIDEO)

Midway through the opening period of Friday's Dallas Stars-Anaheim Ducks game, things got contentious. It started with a Stephane Robidas-Corey Perry and ended with a scrum that saw five minors handed out with 59 seconds to go.

In between, Anaheim's Brad Staubitz was given a 5-minute major and game misconduct for this spear on Stars defenseman Brenden Dillon:

Dillon was able to continue playing once the shock of taking a hockey stick to the man parts wore off.

It wasn't the best period for Staubitz, as both of his penalties led to Dallas goals for a 2-0 lead.

Does Staubitz deserve any further punishment for his actions? No. It happened early enough in the game to almost act as a 1-game suspension; and if Johan Franzen wasn't given anything for this spear on David Perron Thursday night, then Staubitz shouldn't worry.

It hasn't been the best week for the groin areas of hockey players between Dillon, Perron and, of course, Carey Price.
