Chicago not done yet: acquire Weise, Fleischmann for Danault, pick

It was only a matter of time before Dale Weise was dealt from the Montreal Canadiens. But who had the Chicago Blackhawks as the team he was going to?

Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman continues to destroy all opponents in the splashy trade department after acquiring Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann in exchange for Phillip Danault and a second-round pick in 2018. Also, the Canadiens retain 30% of Weise's salary on their books.

Per General Fanager, the trade balances out like this:

Chicago's cap gets hit with Fleischmann ($750K) and Weise ($1.47M) for a total of $2,220,000. Both players will be unrestricted free agents at the end of this season.

Montreal is on the books for Danault ($863K) and Weise's retained salary ($308K) for $1,171,000. Danault, 23, is in the final year of his RFA contract

One could hazard a guess that the Canadiens are ready to wrap up this whole winning thing for this season. A miracle run - that would HAVE to include Carey Price - just doesn't appear to be happening any time soon. Head coach Michel Therrien said the young players will be getting more ice time for the remaining 22 games, so Danault fits right in.

After trading for Andrew Ladd yesterday and shipping out Rob Scuderi for Christian Ehrhoff earlier on Friday, Bowman appears to be pushing his chips to the center of the table and going all in. Now if he could only clear up that pesky Bryan Bickell situation.

As for the MILBURY SCALE:

The Milbury Scale 2014 - 2 Milbury
The Milbury Scale 2014 - 2 Milbury

Chicago is overloaded with power for the stretch run. Trading away Danault and a pick isn't going to help them in the future, but they probably don't care about that too much when they can built a dynasty now.
