The Chronicles of Stanley is an occasional series this summer that tracks the Chicago Blackhawks as they each get their special alone time with the Stanley Cup.
Jim Anderson seized his opportunity in front of the Stanley Cup back in 2013.
With Lord Stanley’s Cup in front of him during an event at Bolingbrook Country Club two years ago following the Chicago Blackhawks’ second title in four seasons, Anderson dropped to one knee and proposed to his girlfriend, Jeanne Hansen. She said yes and on Thursday morning the couple exchanged vows with their old friend as part of the ceremony.
(This is the second wedding the Cup has been a part of this summer. Please recall Andrew Shaw crashing a wedding earlier this month during his day with the trophy.)
Back at Bolingbrook, the couple’s story has grown so much over the last month since the Aurora Beacon-News first told it that Hansen even had a local dress designer offer to create one featuring a Blackhawks logo. She declined the offer and instead donned a pair of custom Blackhawks Converse sneakers while the wedding party all wore jerseys.
"The Blackhawks are so important to us. They've made our families grow together," Hansen said of meshing their children from previous marriages. "We go to games, and signings and support our team --everyone is involved," she said. That includes the family's house, which is decked-out in black and red.
The couple thought about saying “I do” inside the Blackhawks’ home at United Center, but the price was just too high.
Anderson's vows were, of course, Blackhawks themed, as the Beacon-News reported Thursday:
"As I pull this ring from Lord Stanley's Cup ... The symbol of the greatest trophy of all ... May this ring with no beginning or end ... Be touched by the living history of all."
And after the couple were officially wed and kissed, they both saved one last smooth for the Cup.
The Chicago Tribune has a great photo gallery of the nuptials.
