Artem Anisimov stretchered off after freak injury vs. Red Wings (VIDEO)

Very scary scene in the second period of the Columbus Blue Jackets’ game at the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night: Artem Anisimov was stretchered off the Joe Louis Arena ice after a freak collision with Kyle Quincey that saw the Detroit defenseman accidentally drive the Columbus forward’s head into the ice:

Anisimov lost his edge as he skated around the Detroit goal, colliding with the back of Quincey’s legs. As he fell to the ice, Qunicey fell with him, driving his forearm into Anisimov’s head.

Another look:

The Blue Jackets forward didn’t move for several moments. Medical personnel stretchered him off the ice.

Scary stuff, but Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch offered good news later in the game:

We’ll update if there’s further information on Anisimov. Quincey was also injured on the play, hurting his knee. The Red Wings announced he would not return to the game.
