The NFC divisional playoff game between the Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints was basically over before Reggie Bush(notes) settled in to return a punt with 6:55 remaining in the third quarter. Twelve seconds later it was definitely over.
The former Heisman Trophy winner's 83-yard punt return midway through the third quarter put the Saints up 45-14, the score by which the team eventually won. The 24-point lead New Orleans held before Bush's return seemed like it would hold but, then again, so did Arizona's 21-point lead last week against Green Bay.
The return hearkened back to Bush's days at USC, when his electrifying speed made every defender look like they were chasing him down in quicksand. It's a scene that has played out occasionally in the NFL, but not often enough for Saints fans. Maybe Bush saves it for big games: He's now scored four touchdowns in three career playoff games.
