LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu has announced that there will be no party for Tyrann Mathieu following the first-round of the 2013 NFL draft.
"There will be no party for Tyrann Mathieu!!," wrote Mathieu.
Mathieu's tweet came in response to an earlier tweet inviting club-goers to SL, a nightclub in New York City, to celebrate after Mathieu was selected in the first-round on Thursday night.
Such a party would be presumptuous on Mathieu's part, as he is far from a lock to be among the 32 names called during Thursday night's draft. Mathieu certainly has the talent to be a first-round pick, but off-field issues, including multiple failed drug tests that led to his dismissal from LSU after the 2011 season, will most likely keep the "Honey Badger" out of the first round and could keep him available until the fourth round, which begins on Saturday morning.
That said, it only takes one, which raises the interesting question of whether or not Mathieu or his agent, Patrick Lawlor, had received assurances from an NFL team that he would be picked on Thursday night. Either way, with millions, or at least hundreds of thousands of dollars at stake, it has to be concerning to any NFL team considering taking Mathieu is already planning to party after he's drafted by the NFL.
