We have a very interesting two-guest podcast to hopefully brighten your Friday. First, we bring in actor Chris Reed, who plays SAMCRO prospect "Filthy Phil" on the excellent FX show "Sons of Anarchy." Chris is a lifetime San Diego Chargers fan, so we go into the travails of his favorite team: What Sons character is A.J. Smith most like, how painful is it to watch Darren Sproles in New Orleans, what's the deal with Philip Rivers, and ... well, whither Norv?
We also take a quick spin around the league before talking about his role in the show that's been TV's best for a while in my humble opinion.
Chris is very active on Twitter, as well — you can follow him at @Chrisreed619 if you're a fan of the show, or if you just want to talk football with another intelligent voice.
Then, we got on the phone with Mike Dunphy, the Publisher and editor-in-chief of NFL Magazine, the league's new official publication. The NFL has had various magazines through the years, but the new endeavor is a bit different in that it's set to intertwine with NFL.com and the NFL Network to give unprecedented access to the inside view of the NFL. Mike goes through the process of starting the magazine up, what the lay of the land will be, and how this magazine will be more than just a propaganda post.
From the press release:
The National Football League will launch its official monthly publication, NFL Magazine, on December 13, 2011, with Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow on the cover of the premiere issue. The collectors' edition, in print just in time for holiday gift subscriptions, will be the first of 12 monthly issues published by the NFL and will be available by subscription and on newsstands nationwide.
Annual subscriptions to NFL Magazine are now available at NFL.com/Magazine.
NFL Magazine will feature on-and-off-the-field coverage, providing fans insight into players and teams that can only be delivered by the official magazine of the NFL. Additionally, in each issue, NFL experts and top sports journalists will offer an inside-the-huddle perspective and exclusive insights, analysis, and features from NFL Network and NFL.com.
NFL great Boomer Esiason and longtime NFL reporter Andrea Kremer have joined the magazine as regular contributors. The premiere collectors' edition issue will feature NFL Network talent, including Warren Sapp and Jim Mora.
