Some NFL players are known for some interesting fears.
Former Buccaneers/Vikings/Giants quarterback Josh Freeman had a fear of being stuck in an elevator ... and then he ended up getting stuck in an elevator. (For all we know, he could be stuck in one right now.)
Ostriches. Richardson has an unnatural fear of ostriches, per SB Nation.
Yes, the beady-eyed, long-necked flightless birds do cast a weird aura, but they generally measure low on the horror meter in mass society. Besides, when was the last time you saw one that wasn't behind a fence?
Still, Richardson remains unchecked in his fear.
"I think ostriches are weird," he said.
He then tries to verbalize why, essentially he doesn't understand them. Which makes sense: As the old saying — and the old Genesis lyric — goes, we fear what we don't understand.
"I don't get ostriches, and they're very scary," he said.
Asked what his reaction would be if he suddenly turned and saw an ostrich over his shoulder, Richardson said:
"I'd flip my lid. I would be gone. You would see a 4.2 (40-yard dash), maybe a 4.1. They can go that fast, too," he said.
Even no longer living, ostriches elicit a bad reaction from the Seahawks rookie.
"I wouldn't eat an ostrich burger. I would not," he said.
Seahawks veterans, take note: You want to haze your new teammate during training camp? You now have more than enough goods to do so.
