The Denver Broncos are bound for the playoffs, but linebacker Von Miller’s season ended in Week 16.

Mike Klis of the Denver Post is reporting Miller tore his ACL against the Houston Texans on Sunday and will miss the rest of this season.

Miller’s injury is a big loss for Denver’s defense, which is currently ranked 22nd in the NFL, but the Broncos could survive without him. Denver began the season 6-0 without Miller, who was serving a drug related suspension by the NFL. Miller had 34 tackles, five sacks and three forced fumbles during nine games this season.

Denver still has quarterback Peyton Manning, who set a new single-season touchdown passing record (51) on Sunday. Manning’s offense will have to overcome his team’s defensive inconsistency in the playoffs, which could an achievable task if Wes Welker fully recovers from his concussion injury before the postseason.

It has been a stranger year for Miller, but this cannot be the way he hoped it would end.
