Raiders fans take their anger to the billboards

A number of Oakland Raiders fans have finally reached their breaking point with Al Davis and his desire to still run the ship in Oakland. They're still respectful enough to call him "Mr. Davis," but at the same time, they'd kindly ask him to get his wrinkled paws off the team.

The folks behind purchased the above billboard, and they say that a newspaper ad is next on the agenda. If that doesn't work, I'd recommend purchasing some ad time during reruns of "Murder, She Wrote." That might be the best way to get Al's attention.

They're right, of course. Al Davis still makes all the decisions in Oakland, and they're almost always the wrong decisions. This will be the seventh straight year now that the Raiders have been a laughingstock. The figurative blood is on Davis's hands.

In other embarrassments to the Raiders franchise, star cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha has gone public with his belief that the Raiders should run more than one defense. According to Asomugha, the Raiders aren't real big on adjusting their defense to play against any offense in particular. From the AP's Josh Dubow:

“We’re a team that chooses to be who we are regardless of who we’re playing against and regardless of the matchups or the things that the other team is going to present,” Asomugha said Wednesday. “We’ve got one way of doing it and that’s what we do, and teams can get us into some tough situations.” [...]

“The game changes, the game is never going to be the same as it was 10 years ago or five years ago with the rule changes and things like that,” Asomugha said. “You have to be able to adapt.”

Dubow also points out that despite a change in defensive coordinators this year, the Raiders are still running the same defense they've had for years and years. Which, of course, points back to Al Davis. Which brings us back to the billboard.

I admire the effort, fans, and your sentiment is dead on. If Al hasn't stopped believing that he's the best guy for the job by this point, though, I doubt your billboard will make him reconsider.
