Pittsburgh Steelers’ throwback jerseys appear to be inspired by bumblebees

The Pittsburgh Steelers unveiled their 80th-season throwback jersey on Tuesday by posting a photo of running back Issac Redman modeling the uniform (in what appears to be a bathroom, but that's neither here nor there).

The black and yellow striped jerseys are modeled on the original uniforms worn by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1934. Initial impression: Bumblebees in prison. After letting it marinate for a while and resisting the urge to mug someone for honey: Somehow, it still works.

The Steelers are expected to wear the throwbacks (which celebrate the 80th season, not the 80th anniversary -- that won't come until 2013) in two home games this season.
