Alabama's AJ McCarron among the big-name QBs still waiting to be drafted

There have been five quarterbacks drafted in the first three rounds of the 2014 NFL draft. There figure to be several more who hear their names called, but the wait continues for some players who were being talked about as Day 2 possibilities.

Alabama's AJ McCarron told Shutdown Corner he thought he could be a first- or second-round pick, but he's still waiting.

LSU's Zach Mettenberger was being talked about as a possible second-rounder at one point but has seen his stock drop amid talk of a bad back and a questionable drug-test result.

Pitt's Tom Savage has been something of a mystery man in the draft process, visiting a number of teams. But he still waits to hear his name called.

Also having to wait: Virginia Tech's Logan Thomas, Georgia's Aaron Murray, San Jose State's David Fales, Clemson's Tajh Boyd and Wyoming's Brett Smith, among others.

The Houston Texans have yet to draft a quarterback, and there has been talk of a possible trade with Patriots for Ryan Mallett. But nothing has happened yet, even with the Patriots using a second-round pick on Eastern Illinois' Jimmy Garoppolo.

Other teams that could seek a quarterback in the coming four rounds on Saturday include the Cardinals, Titans and Buccaneers, plus a number of other teams who might dip into this talent pool looking for a developmental bargain.

Even in the third day of the draft, quarterbacks are a big part of the landscape.
