Mark Sanchez will start Jets’ preseason opener, likely won’t be booed as loudly in road game

Mark Sanchez, the favorite candidate of New York Jets' fans to start at quarterback, will be first up when the team starts preseason play.

Coach Rex Ryan said Sanchez will start the preseason opener on Friday at Detroit. Luckily for Sanchez, it's a road game and the crowd might be friendlier to him than a Jets home crowd would be.

The New York Daily News reported Ryan said that Smith, a rookie second-round pick, will also see time with the first-team offense, which is interesting.

Smith has reportedly played mostly mistake-free football during camp. He hadn't thrown an interception in team drills until Tuesday, the Daily News said.

Sanchez hasn't been so mistake free, which drew the boos at the scrimmage this past weekend. Ryan said it wasn't a sure thing that Sanchez would start the preseason opener, but since the competition has been even, it "seemed like the natural thing" to go with Sanchez.
