Lions fans receive playoff tickets in mail a day after team eliminated from playoff race

Monday had to be a dreary day around Detroit.

The Lions were eliminated from the playoffs on Sunday with a shocking loss to the Giants. Even worse than losing to the Giants was the knowledge that the Packers and Bears also lost, so Detroit could have been back in first place in the NFC North with a win. Instead, a 6-3 start turned into five losses in six games, and coach Jim Schwartz's seat is the hottest in the NFL.

And if that wasn't enough, according to the Detroit Free Press some Lions fans got the world's greatest unintentional troll job in the mail on Monday: playoff tickets.

Yep, that sound you heard was the sad trombone playing for all Lions fans.

As the Free Press points out, it's common for teams to start taking and fulfilling playoff ticket requests late in the season, and the Lions were 6-5 they sent out invoices. At that point there was optimism that those tickets would be used.

That was before the Lions ruined Christmas in Detroit.
