Lil’ Cowboy: Romo says he and newlywed wife are expecting child

America's team is about to get a little bigger.

Tony Romo revealed Tuesday that he and his newlywed wife, former pageant queen Candice Crawford, are expecting their first child. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback was at an anti-drug rally at a local high school when he let the news slip.

NBC Dallas reports Romo divulged the information after a student asked he and teammate Miles Austin whether they had any children. (Miles Austin, is there anything he can't do?)

"I actually have one on the way," said Romo. "My wife is pregnant."

The two were married Memorial Day weekend at a lavish ceremony in Dallas, six months after Romo, then 30, proposed at Crawford's 24th birthday party. The Cowboys quarterback has managed to keep his relationship with Crawford largely out of the tabloids, save for the occasional story about tame bachelor parties, lavish wedding registries and interesting Internet trailers for a high-production wedding video.

Romo's prior relationship, with pop star Jessica Simpson, was a favorite of the TMZs and US Weeklys of the world, peaking with the couple's getaway to Mexico during the Cowboys' playoff bye week. When Romo had a poor performance the next weekend in a Dallas loss to the New York Giants, the vacation was mentioned as a reason. (He still hasn't learned the value of timing, I guess. This Sunday, Dallas plays division rival Philadelphia in one of the biggest games of the young NFL season. If he performs poorly, you know you're going to hear someone say it's because he's got fatherhood on the mind.)

No due date was revealed.
